How to play Blackjack
Simple Blackjack FAQ
Blackjack is the simplest of the card games you can play at a land or online casino. The idea of the game is to get as close to 21 as the dealer, without going over (also known as going bust). If you go bust, that round ends for you, and you have lost. Sometimes at land casinos, you will noticed several players playing on the one table at once. The players arent playing against each other, but against the house.
So you know the idea of the game now, reaching as close to as 21 as possible. So how do we get to as close as 21? Well... it all has to do with the value of the cards.
Aces are either 1 or 11, its up to you what you want it to be at anytime of the game, you can change your mind anytime, and as many times as you want!
2 through 10 are face value (9 = 9, 4 = 4 etc)
Jacks, Queens and Kings are worth 10 each.
At the start of each round, every player is dealt 2 cards each. The dealer also gets 2 cards, one facing up, one facing down(so you as the player cant see this card). All players cards are always facing up for everyone to see.
In the first round of cards being dealt out, if you receive a Jack or Queen or Queen or King along with an Ace, you win automatically, as this has already reached 21, and is called Blackjack. If in the first round, the dealer also gets a Blackjack as well, then its a draw.
In the first round, if no one gets a Blackjack, its up to the players if they want another card or not(taking another card is called - hit). The idea is to get as close to 21 as possible, without going bust remember! When you are happy with the cards you have, and havent gone bust, you can stop getting more cards by saying, stand or hold.
Once everyone has had their turns and are happy with their hands, its the dealers turn. Dealer always goes last.
The dealer then flips over his card, and its his turn. The dealer will try and get to as close to as 21 as possible, without going bust. The dealer may stop giving himself cards when he wants. But he must not try and go bust! When the dealer is happy with his hands, and stands, or holds.
Now that everyone has had their turns, its time to see who the winners, and losers are. If the dealer has a higher number then another player, without going bust, the dealer wins.
If the dealer has a lower number then a player, the dealer loses.
If the dealer and aplayer have the same numbers - then its a draw!
If the dealer went bust, then all players who havent yet gone bust, are winners!
Additional Notes
If a player receives two of the same cards, 2 queens, 2 5's, 2 Aces, the player may do something known as splitting.
This is where the player can play 2 different piles. The rules apply to the same to the player playing 2 piles of cards, he must try and get as close to 21 as possible without going bust.
Betting at Blackjack
All players must put in money to play blackjack (Except the dealer - who is the bank)
If a player bets $2, and beats the dealer, the player gets $2 from the dealer, as well as the $2 they bet back. So they get $4 back.
If the player goes bust, then the dealer takes the players $2.
If the player gets a blackjack and beats the dealer, the player gets 1.5 x their bet (in this case $3), and their $2 bet back. So they get $5 back.
